Lagos Will Grow by 4% to $136b in 2019- Ambode

The Lagos state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has affirmed that the state’s economy would rise by 4% in 2019.

He said this at a separate meeting on Tuesday in an address to the states foremost social clubs- Island Club and the Yoruba Tennis Club. In his words “Lagos on a stand-alone5 basis in the year under reference, would achieve four per cent growth in its GDP, which is currently valued at 136 billion”.

The prediction is in line with what IMF (international Monetary Funds) forecast which stated that the state’s production growth projection will exceed that at the federal government level.

He said “According to IMF The Nigeria GDP will grow from 1.9% in 2018 to 2.8% in 2109. Lagos on a Stand-alone basis will achieved over four per cent growth in GDP.  By implication, this could be more if the congestion at the port and Negative effect this has on the economy is addressed”.

This speech was witnessed by lots of dignitaries like the former commissioner for Works, Alhaji Femi Okunnu; Chairman, Yoruba Tennis Club, Prof, Adetokunbo Fabanwo; Chairman, Island Club, Olabanji Oladapo and theb governorship candidate of Alln Progressive Congress (APC) Babajide Sanw-Olu.

The Governor also said that the 2019 budget will be dedicated towards the completion of on-going infrastructure projects, creation of more jobs, supporting business to thrive and strengthening security of the state.

Police Arrest 4 Over Abule Egba Explosion

The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday said that it had arrested four persons who are suspected to be involved in the recent NNPC pipeline vandalism at Abule Egba which later resulted in fire outbreak.

The NNPC pipeline was vandalised on December 12, causing fire outbreak in which over 100 houses and shops including several vehicles. Several people also sustained various degrees of burns but luckily, no life was lost.

The police command’s spokesman CSP Chike Oti, said that the prime suspect had been declared wanted. He said the suspects explained that the fire emanated from a vandalised petroleum pipeline which enveloped a whole section of Abule-Egba community and extended to parts of Agege area.

The arrested suspect confessed that the ring leader of the plot is one Prince Adedipo Dauda Ewenla. Thepolice command extended invitation to him but he had fled to Ogun State in order to evade arrest.

MSSN Lagos: No hijab in school, no vote

The Muslim Sudents’s Society of Nigeria (MSSN) has told Lagos State governorship candidates that it would only vote during the next 2019 general election if there can be unconditional approval for female students to wear hijab in schools

In a statement made by the head of the Society in Lagos Saheed Ashafa “We have been very careful in taking a position on the governorship election in Lagos state, but something is clear – we will not support any candidate that will pose a challenge to the use of hijab by our members in schools or deny any of our rights. MSSN Lagos is not a political organisation but millions of our members are qualified voters. We have sensitised them enough to get their Permanent Voters Cards and the need to be peaceful during the election.”

Ashafa made these submissions at the ongoing 106th Islamic Vacation Course at the Human Capital Development Center, Noforija, Epe, Lagos.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu Visits General Hospitals in Lagos on Christmas Day

The Governorship candidate under the umbrella of APC,  Mr Jide Sanwo-Olu visisted Gbagada Hospital and Randle General Hospital Gbaja

In the official Instagram page of the aspirant, He said “I visited Gbagada General Hospital and Randle General Hospital(MCC) Gbaja, Surulere to share the joy of Christmas with them. The moment were really memorable with flashes of mixed feelings. Memorable because of the promises and hopes of a greater tomorrow I saw in the faces of the new born babies. Mixed feelings because my walk through the other words shoed me that there is still so much love we should be giving ourselves.  As human beings we should always lend a helping hand , support and inspire one another. As this would ga along way in strengthening our belief in humanity. I prayed with every one I encountered for speedy recovery and urge for a stronger faith in God. With this visit, I also got clearer insight into how to enhance our medical infrastructure in the context of my THEME agenda.

Four Policemen Arrested for Robberey in Lagos

Four police officer attached to ijanikin  Division of Lagos State Police command have been arrested  for allegedly robbing a man of about 222,000naira

This was made known by the Lagos State police spokesman, CSP Chike Oti, who  also confirmed that the victim was a Nigerian man who was based in Togo. The spokesman said that the policemen shall face dismissal if found guilty.

It was gathered by news men that the officers allegedly accosted the victim coming from Togo to celebrate Christmas in Nigeria. The suspect subjected the victim to tortuous, search and interrogation after which they discovered some amount of money with him. They ere alleged to have bundled him into their patrol vehicle and took him to Ijanikin police station where they collected all the money on him and gave him just 2000 naira out of his own money, to locate his Lagos residence

The victim narrated the whole situation to his family members when he eventually reached his destination. And this led to the report of the policemen to a Area K, commander, ACP Hope OKafor.  Okafor was said to have helped hi m recover his stolen money and get the policemen in question arrested.

Lagos- Worrisome situation of Badagry Expressway

Since the last 20 years, plying this all important route in its bad state has been frustrating to its users including visitors from nearby countries.

In 2009 the Lagos State Government embarked on extensive reconstruction of the road from four lane to 10 lanes. The road extension project was proposed to be finished within three years. Now the completion date has long due, yet the road is still in a worrisome condition creating more sufferings and causing unbearable gridlock for road users.

Motorist told newsmen that they experience serious hardships daily on the road. A motorist, Mr Lukman Adisa said while lamenting on the situation of thr road “The road is really bad, I urge the construction company handling the road to expedite action, so that we can have smooth passage on the road. I had thought that by now, construction work which started during the ti,me of the former Governor Babatunde Fashola would have been concluded by now.

An official of the construction company handling the road gave some causes of the delay. He said “We had to stop mwork for three years, between 2013 and 2016 to allow NNPc relocate their pipelines buried between Alakija and Abule Ado. Another delay we have is the military barracks along the road, part of the fence has to give way for the road expansion but we cannot do that immediately due to sensitive nature of their work.”

Lagosians hereby appeal to the Government to do all they can to hasten the completion of the road.

Lagos 2019-Babajide Sanwo-Olu visits Lateef Jakande

The first civilian governor of Lagos state, Lateef Jakande, received the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and prayed for his success in the forthcoming general elections.

Describing Lateef  Jakande as his father and political mentor, Sanwo-Olu said the visit was to seek the blessing of the old legend and intimate him of the strides taken so far in his efforts to rule the state.

In a statement made by Sanwolu- “As the first executive governor of Lagos, Baba Jakande is well-respected and he is someone all of us look up to for political direction. He is an arrowhead of progressive politics and constitutional democracy. Coming to greet him in this festive period is appropriate. But, I am also using the opportunity of this visit to draw on his experience and seek his blessing, as a leader, in my intention to govern our dear state.”

Jakande informed Sanwo-Olu that he had read his professional profile and achievements, which, the former governor said, stood the APC candidate out as the best person to lead the state.

Jakande prayed Sanwolu’s candidacy and prayed for his success in the election. He also advised the APC candidate not to disappoint Lagosians if elected, saying welfare of the people must be paramount to him.

2018 One Lagos Fiesta begins

On Monday  December 24, 2018, The 2018 edition of the porpular “One Lagos Fiesta’, OLF organised by the Lagos State Goovernmebt commenced  all the five divisions of Lagos state.

Being the biggest free show of culture and arts of the people of Lagos, it has been making positive impacts on the socio-economic life of the residents of the states.

Residents and visitors in Ikeja, Ikorodu, Epe, Badagry and Lagos Island are being treated to the best of musical entertainment, cultural displays, comedy and cuisine from the State. This was made known in a statement issued by the ministry of Information and Strategy on Monday.

It was mentioned that the fiesta will run for eight days, from midday to midnight, with the first six hours dedicated to entertainment for children. Lagosians are also assured that security measures and emergency medical services are readily available in all the zones throughout the fiesta period.

The release added that the State Government has deployed traffic management officials to man routes leading to all the locations to ensure proper management of traffic.

Several musical legends such as Kollington Ayinla, Evangelist Lanre triba, Dr, Saheed Osupa and other upcoming artists will be featured in this year’s fiesta

The government hereby urge the revellers to be orderly and cooperate with security agents.

Lagos royal family warns, Our Land is not for sale

In reaction to the fraudulent activities of some individuals, The royal family of Onigbanko ruling house in Oriade Local council Development Area of Lagos State has seriously warned the  general public that  its land is not for sale.

The Oba of Onigbako/Irede kingdom , Prince Muritala Shittu made it known that some individuals are already parading themselves as the lawful owners and representatives of the Onigbanko Royal family. He said “Some investors from United Arab Emirates  have conducted search on the land with the aim of buying from these unauthorised persons. We hereby warn the general public to desist from having deals with anybody regarding the said land. Any transaction consummated with any unapproved person will be totally at the purchaser’s risk”

Lagos businessman faces N12 million fraud charge

John Ekpebi, a 43-year-old business colleague, was charged to court for allegedly defrauding his colleague of 12 million Naira.  He is facing a three count charge of stealing, fraud and issuance of dud cheque. The Prosecutor, Sgt. Friday Mameh, told the court that the accused committed the offences in August 2014 at Yaba area of Lagos.

He said that John fraudulently obtained the N12 million from the complainant, Mr Hyacinth Onah, the Managing Director of K-Dission Businesses Ltd, under the guise that he would invest it in a business.

Mameh said that the accused did not invest the money in any business and was unable to refund the money.

“However, between 2015 and 2017, the accused issued two different Diamond Bank cheques worth N7.3 million and a Union Bank cheque worth N1.5 million to the complainant, which were all dishonoured due to insufficient funds,” he said.

The offences contravened Sections 287, 314 and 321 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mr Y. O. Aro-Lambo, granted the accused N1 million bail with two sureties in like sum. Then, The case was adjourned until Jan. 21, 2019 for mention.

Akinwumi Ambode officially endorsed Babajide Sanwo-Olu/Obafemi Hamzat ticket

The Excecutive  Governor of Lagos State Akinwunmi  Ambode has finally officially endorsed the Governorship aspirant under the umbrella of All Progressive congress (APC) in the State Mr, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi  Hamzat, saying that the duo were well ready for the task of governing the state and taking it to greater heights

This occurred at  a stakeholders’ meeting held at the State secretariat of the party where the Governor raised the hands of Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat in the presence of party leaders.

He said “As we are looking forward to February 16, 2019, we know it is the Buhari/Osinbajo ticket that the whole of Lagos will vote for. As we proceed two weeks after on March 2, we also declare that it is the Sanwo-Olu/Hamzat ticket that will come to take over from me by the special grace of God. I pray for them and bless them that they will take over from me successfully in good health and in good spirit,”

Ambode appealed to the party leaders to take a step futher  buy looking for avenues to compensate aggrieved aspirants, saying such is important to make them willing to continue to work for the party.

“This is very important so that we can move this campaign forward because it is only when we win that we can compensate, it is only when we win that we can reconcile and so let us have that collective decision to move APC forward.” He said

Christmastime: Lagos is safe – Police

The Public Relation Officer of the Lagos State Public Chike Godwin Oti, has assured Lagosians of a peaceful stay during the Christmas period. He mentioned this in a phone interview with newsmen. He enjoined people to be vigilant and conscious of their environment.

He said “This is the period of the year when family members and friends get together to celebrate and make merry. It is the responsibility of the police force to ensure that Lagosians enjoy the festive season peacefully. People must be conscious of their environment and mind the people they interact with. At all times our homes must be securely locked. People should make sure that they have the phone number of the DPO (divisional police officer) in their locality for emergency and always reach out to him.”

He then advised the people of Lagos to be united in fighting crime. He added “When you see a stranger in your area, you should let the police be aware for safety or somebody wandering around especially when the stranger is with children you know. We should question the person and report to the parent. We should be our brother’s keeper. We should be cautious of people around us. The emergency lines to call are 727 and 112.”

Police Arrest a Boy Who Tried to kill His Boss for Money in Lagos

A boy Identified as Charles Ogbonna was arrested by the Lagos state police force as he tries to kill his boss.

According to the boss in his interaction with the police while in the hospital, the boy was working  in his house as house help and he has worked for one and half year. The boss found that the servant was stealing his money so he had to send him back to the village afterwhich the boy reappeared after some weeks in his home; and that was December 16, 2018.

According the victim, the boy came back to his house after everyone has gone to church and only him and his wife was at home when he came. He was welcomed, since he said he only came to greet the boss and the wife even cooked for him. He then requested that the boss should give him some amount of money to start his own business to in Lagos. The victim told the boy to take from the money he stole that he don’t have another money to give him. He said he will agree to give him some money with some agreement with the boy’s family. As he bend down to write his phone number and give to the boy so that he can give to his family members, the boy stabbed him with a knife on the chest. In the process of trying to stand up, the boy stabbed him again twice at the back. He managed to stand up and dragged the knife with the boy, and luckily, he was able to break it. By then a woman in the compound noticed something is wrong and she raised alarm. The boy tried to escape boy some boys caught him before the police came and took him away. Then the victim was rushed to the hospital.

The boy is still in Police custody and will be charged to court by January 15.

Igbo in Lagos Support Sanwo-Olu

A section of the Igbo community in Lagos State under the aegis of ‘Ndigbo Friends of Sanwo-Olu in Lagos,’ has expressed their total support for Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Sanwo-Olu has therefore assured all none indigene in that his government, if elected would continue to protect their interest especially the Igbo and their business.
